GTA 6 Map: Every Leonida Region and Place Rockstar Named
The GTA 6 map from Rockstar's own copy: six Leonida regions, every named place, the clues to where each one sits, and what is not official about its size.
Last checked: Oct 12 2026. The game is out Nov 19 2026.
Five weeks out, the GTA 6 map is the thing everyone wants to see and nobody outside Rockstar has. What we do have is a surprising amount of Rockstar's own writing about it: six region panels on the official site, a pile of place names tucked into the Ultimate Edition copy, radio station blurbs, and image descriptions that quietly say where things are. This page reads all of it as a map. Where does each region sit? What can you actually see there? And what about the size, the number every thread argues over?
Short version: Leonida is a whole state, Vice City is its big city, and Rockstar has never published how large any of it is.
For the full Florida comparison of each place, see our Leonida page. For how this Vice City relates to the 2002 one, see Vice City across eras. This page is the map view.

The six regions, and where they sit
Rockstar has never published a map, but its copy drops real geography clues. Mount Kalaga is "up against the state's northern border." Ambrosia is "the heart of Leonida." Port Gellhorn is "Leonida's forgotten coast." One of Rockstar's own Grassrivers image descriptions mentions "the Vice City skyline" in the distance, so the wetlands are within sight of the city. Put those together and you get a rough shape: a coastal city in the south, islands and wetlands nearby, farm country in the middle, a fading coast somewhere, and wilderness up north. That rough shape is our reading of Rockstar's words, not a Rockstar map.
| Region | Rockstar's tagline | Location clue in Rockstar's own words | What Rockstar's image descriptions show |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vice City | "Everything in Excess" | "the sun and fun capital of America" | A jet over a Vice City sign, a night skyline with a Ferris wheel, a beach with a lifeguard stand, dirt bikes and ATVs doing tricks on a city road |
| Leonida Keys | "Gateway to Paradise" | "this tropical archipelago," on "the doorstep of some of the most beautiful and dangerous waters in all of America" | A seaplane over water with a bridge joining two islands, scuba divers on a reef, a boat party, a beach bar |
| Grassrivers | "Welcome to the Wetlands" | "the untamable jewel of Leonida's crown"; Vice City skyline visible in the distance | Airboats among alligators, a police chase through a swamp, buildings on piers over the water |
| Port Gellhorn | "Live Hard" (subhead: "This is Leonida's forgotten coast") | A "once-popular vacation spot" on the coast | A motel with its vacancy sign lit, a cabaret parking lot at night, a bonfire |
| Ambrosia | "Keeping Leonida Sweet" | "In the heart of Leonida" | A night skyline with smokestacks, a burning crop field, a biker gang on the road |
| Mount Kalaga | "Wild, Wild Country" | "on the state's northern fringes," a "national landmark up against the state's northern border" | A kayak heading for a bridge, a cougar stalking deer, a winding road between steep hills, dirt bikes in mud |
A small find for the name nerds: the panel itself says "Mount Kalaga," but every one of Rockstar's image descriptions for that region says Mount Kalaga National Park. So both names are Rockstar's.
What Rockstar says each region is about
- Vice City. "The glamour, hustle, and greed of America captured in a single city." Rockstar names four neighborhoods or spots here: Ocean Beach, Little Cuba, the Tisha-Wocka flea market and the VC Port, "the cruise ship capital of the world."
- Leonida Keys. Casual, boozy, easy living: "the dress code is casual, the bars are loaded." It is also where Jason worked for drug runners and where Brian Heder still runs his boat yard (GTA VI characters).
- Grassrivers. A "primordial expanse" where gators are the famous attraction but "far deadlier predators and weirder discoveries" hide in the mangroves.
- Port Gellhorn. Cheap motels, shut-down attractions and empty strip malls, with a new economy "fueled by malt liquor, painkillers, and truck stop energy drinks." Rockstar's advice: "Jump on a dirt bike and hold onto your wallet."
- Ambrosia. Industry and old-school values. The Allied Crystal sugar refinery "provides the jobs, while the local biker gang provides almost everything else."
- Mount Kalaga. Hunting, fishing and off-road trails, with "hillbilly mystics and paranoid radicals" in the backwoods.

Every smaller place Rockstar has named
These come from Rockstar's region copy, its Ultimate Edition and pre-order copy on rockstargames.com/VI, and the same copy on the PlayStation Store. Shops and brands are left out unless they work as a location.
| Place | Region, if Rockstar says | What Rockstar ties to it |
|---|---|---|
| Ocean Beach | Vice City | Pastel art deco hotels, white sand; also named in the Vintage Vice City Pack copy |
| Ocean View Hotel | Not stated | Jason and Lucia pose outside it in Rockstar's Vintage Vice City Pack image description |
| Little Cuba | Vice City | Busy panaderias |
| Tisha-Wocka flea market | Vice City | Bootleg brands |
| VC Port | Vice City | "The cruise ship capital of the world" |
| Southside Vice City | Vice City | Turf of the PTT Youngin$ gang, whose compound is an Ultimate Edition raid |
| Washington Beach | Not stated | Where the Shitzu Squalo boat is docked |
| Gambit Bay | Not stated | Fishing waters for the Squalo |
| Watson Bay | Not stated | Home of the Paradise Garage |
| Paradise Garage | Watson Bay | Weapon locker and a drop for stolen goods |
| Shore Drive | Not stated | The '95 Grotti Cheetah is an "ode to Shore Drive" |
| Vercetti Estate | Not stated | Source of the Hawk and Little Morgan revolvers |
| Stockyard | Not stated | Home of Stock 305 and Electric Fang Tattoo (PlayStation Store copy) |
| Lake Leonida | Not stated | Home of One-Eyed Willie's off-road mod shop |
| Allied Crystal sugar refinery | Ambrosia | The region's main employer |
| Leonida Penitentiary | Not stated | Where Lucia served time |
| Mount Kalaga National Park | Mount Kalaga | Rockstar's fuller name for the region in its image descriptions |
That makes 17 named places on top of the six regions. Our Leonida page counted 15 on Oct 11; the two additions here, the Ocean View Hotel and the full Mount Kalaga National Park name, both come from Rockstar's own image descriptions on rockstargames.com/VI. Washington Beach, Ocean Beach and the Vercetti name will ring bells for anyone who played the 2002 game, but Rockstar has not said whether they are the same places. See GTA Vice City.
How Rockstar has drawn the map, piece by piece
Nobody got the map in one go. Rockstar has filled it in over almost three years, and each drop added names.
| Date | Rockstar post or page | What it added to the map |
|---|---|---|
| Dec 4 to 5 2023 | Trailer 1 and its Newswire post | The state of Leonida, "home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond" |
| May 6 2025 | Trailer 2 Newswire post and the Only in Leonida page | "Vice City, USA," the six regions, and the Vice City neighborhoods |
| By Oct 2026 | Edition and pre-order copy (pre-orders opened Jun 25 2026; we read the copy in October) | Gambit Bay, Washington Beach, Watson Bay, Lake Leonida, Shore Drive, Southside, the Vercetti Estate |
| Aug 27 2026 | An Extended Look | No new names in the Newswire post; Rockstar says it was "captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5" |
| Sep 24 2026 | Collector's box announcement | A poster "showcasing the full Leonida landscape," arriving Nov 19 |
| Oct 8 2026 | Radio station post | Back Country Radio broadcasts "to the Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, and beyond" |
The Trailer 1 post carries a Dec 5 2023 date, but the trailer itself went up on the evening of Dec 4 ET, a day early, after a leak (FACTS.md F26). If you want the full video run, see GTA VI trailers.
Is it really Florida?
Rockstar's region copy never says "Florida." The outlets do, and they are not shy about it:
- PC Gamer calls Leonida "Florida-inspired" and Vice City "inspired by real-life Miami proper." It compares Grassrivers directly with the real Everglades.
- Game Informer called the Leonida Keys "a clear parody of the Florida Keys" on the day the regions went up.
Those are reported comparisons, not Rockstar statements. Our Leonida page goes place by place through the Florida echoes, including the ones that are only our own reading.
How big is the map?
Here is the plain answer: Rockstar has not published a size for the GTA 6 map. Not in square miles, not as a comparison with GTA V or Red Dead Redemption 2, not anywhere we could find on rockstargames.com, in the Newswire posts listed below or on the PlayStation Store listing, as of Oct 12 2026. The closest Rockstar comes is calling the game "the biggest, most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet" (Trailer 1 post) and "the biggest, most immersive evolution of the series yet" (Extended Look post). That is about the game, not a measurement of the map.
So what is not official:
- Any number of square miles or square kilometers.
- "Bigger than GTA V" or "X times Red Dead 2" as a Rockstar figure.
- Any map image, fan map or "leaked map." We do not use leak-derived maps or measurements, and we do not link them.
Most of the widely repeated size claims trace to one preview event; one comes from a Rockstar developer quoted in Game Informer's cover story. Here they are, labeled for what they are.
RUMOR / REPORT: map size claims
| Claim | Where it comes from | Status |
|---|---|---|
| The full map is about three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2's world | YouTuber TGG's account of what Rockstar told preview attendees, as reported by VICE, Aug 28 2026 | Not confirmed by Rockstar. Secondhand. No Rockstar page states it. |
| Vice City alone is about twice the size of GTA V's Los Santos | Listed in the same VICE report, which does not say who said it | Not confirmed by Rockstar. Unattributed. |
| Leonida is the largest open world Rockstar has made | Same VICE report, from the same preview account | Not confirmed by Rockstar. Secondhand. |
| Leonida is about twice the size of GTA V's map | Rockstar head of development and co-studio head Aaron Garbut, in Game Informer's cover story, as reported by VGC, Sep 29 2026. VGC quotes him calling it Rockstar's biggest map "by some degree". | REPORT. A Rockstar developer quoted by press, not a published size. Rockstar has not published a map size. |
What would settle it: a Rockstar figure, or simply the game. The in-game map arrives with everyone else on Nov 19 2026, and so does the collector's box poster. We will update this page when either gives something firm. Our confirmed vs rumor page tracks this claim as R7.
For scale context we can source, GTA V's map was a city plus its countryside: Los Santos and the rest of San Andreas. See GTA V for that game.
What else is not on the map (yet)
- Other cities. Liberty City shows up only in Lucia's family backstory (FACTS.md F35). Nothing says it is playable. Los Santos is not mentioned anywhere in GTA VI's copy (FACTS.md R13).
- Fan-map names. Names that appear only on fan maps, such as "Kelly County," are not on any Rockstar page.
Quick answers
- How many regions does GTA 6 have? Six named by Rockstar, all listed above.
- Is there an official GTA 6 map? Not yet. The first official full-state image Rockstar has announced is the poster in the collector's box, out Nov 19.
- Is GTA 6 bigger than GTA 5? Rockstar has not said. The "3x Red Dead 2" claim is secondhand.
- Can you go to Liberty City? Nothing official says so.
- Where do I find cheats for exploring? None are verified for GTA 6 yet. See GTA cheats.
Sources and method
Everything in the region and place tables comes from Rockstar's own pages, read on Oct 12 2026, including the image descriptions Rockstar wrote for its screenshots. The PlayStation Store copy (written by Rockstar) is taken from this site's fact base, checked Oct 11. Florida comparisons are attributed to the outlet that made them. Size claims appear only in the labeled RUMOR / REPORT table. No leaked material, leaked maps or leak-derived measurements were used.
