Lucia and Jason: GTA VI's Two Leads, From Official Copy

Who Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval are, from Rockstar's own copy only, and how GTA VI's two leads compare with GTA V's three.

Last checked: Oct 11 2026.

Grand Theft Auto VI has two playable leads, Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval. Most character pages pad them out with guesses. This page uses only what Rockstar has written about them: its character profiles, its story blurb, and its store copy. Then it asks how a pair compares with GTA V's trio.

The short answer is in Rockstar's own synopses. GTA V's three men "can trust nobody - least of all each other." GTA VI's two "rely on each other more than ever." The series has moved from a crew to a couple.

What is counted, and how

Every line about the characters comes from Rockstar's Only in Leonida page, Rockstar's story blurb (the same text appears on the Newswire and the PlayStation Store), or the Ultimate Edition copy that Rockstar wrote for the PlayStation Store. Outlet descriptions are quoted only as outlets' views, and labeled that way.

What we left out:

  • Anything from leaked material. We do not describe or link it.
  • Reporters' impressions from previews.
  • Voice-actor names. Rockstar has not credited the cast on any page we opened.

Rockstar's profiles do not say which of the two lines on Jason's panel, "Another day in paradise, right?" or "If anything happens, I'm right behind you," Jason actually speaks. We print them as they appear on his panel.

Who Lucia is

Lucia's profile is about fighting. Her father taught her to fight. Life "has been coming at her swinging." Fighting for her family put her in Leonida Penitentiary. Rockstar says she has "learned her lesson," with "only smart moves from here," and that she is committed to her plan "no matter what it takes." Her family history begins outside Leonida: her mother's dream of a good life dates from "their days in Liberty City." That is the only official link from VI to Liberty City, and it does not mean the city is playable.

When Trailer 1 came out in Dec 2023, GamesRadar called her "the series' very first female protagonist." That is GamesRadar's description, not Rockstar's.

Who Jason is

Jason's profile is about drift. He grew up around grifters and crooks. A stint in the Army was an attempt to shake off "his troubled teens." Afterward he "found himself in the Keys doing what he knows best," working for local drug runners. Rockstar gives him more named company than Lucia: his friend Cal Hampton, a paranoid homebody who snoops on Coast Guard radio, and Brian Heder, a veteran drug runner who houses him.

Rockstar named him later. GamesRadar's Dec 4 2023 report calls him "yet unnamed." Game Informer's May 6 2025 report, written the day Trailer 2 came out, points readers to the "newly announced characters."

Two leads against three

Store copy built around the leadsn/aThe Ultimate Edition is "threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia's story"

The arithmetic: Apr 30 2013 to Sep 17 2013 is 140 days. May 6 2025 to Nov 19 2026 is 562 days.

Our read of the table: GTA V's copy sells three separate lives that meet up for jobs. GTA VI's copy is built around the pair: each profile ends on the other person, and the store copy speaks of "Jason and Lucia's story" in the singular. Rockstar's synopsis frames the story as theirs together. Rob Nelson of Rockstar North, quoted in Dazed's Aug 27 2026 cover-story release, said the team wanted the pair to have "rich backstories and personalities" while leaving "plenty of room for players to fill in some blanks." Dazed itself describes the story as "Bonnie and Clyde-style." GamesRadar made the same comparison in 2023.

What Rockstar has not said: how control passes between the two, whether you can switch freely, and whether they share money or gear. Any page that answers those is guessing or using leaks. See confirmed vs rumor.

What the store copy gives each lead

The Ultimate Edition copy is the most detailed official text about the pair. Rockstar writes it as his and hers.

ItemFor LuciaFor JasonFor both

RevolversHawk and Little Morgan, "his and hers"
VehiclesNone named for her aloneHis "well-worn" Vapid Ganado pickup; "Jason's Safehouse Vehicles" (Dinka Enduro, Crest Kayak)Not tied to either: '95 Grotti Cheetah, Shitzu Squalo boat, '67 Dominator Buggy

AudioPodcasts and radio through headphones and earbuds connected to "their smartphones"

Our observation: the store copy ties more named gear to Jason (a pickup, a motorbike and a kayak, two of them labeled as his safehouse vehicles) than to Lucia. That fits his profile, which gives him a home base and a circle, while hers starts at a prison gate. It may say nothing about the game.
