GTA on Netflix: Which Games, When, and How

Every Grand Theft Auto title Netflix has carried, with dates in and out, what a Netflix plan includes today, and why no GTA game is on Netflix in Oct 2026.

Netflix has carried four Grand Theft Auto titles: three mobile games and one video. On Oct 11 2026 it carries one, and it is not a game. The three Definitive Edition mobile ports have all left the service. What remains is "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look", the 27-minute GTA VI presentation that premiered on Netflix before anywhere else. This page answers what a Netflix subscriber gets from GTA today, and why the games left.

What is counted, and how

Dates in come from Netflix's newsroom and Rockstar's Newswire. Dates out come from What's on Netflix, which reported Netflix's own "last day to play" notices, and PocketGamer.biz, which confirmed the first removal after it happened. We found no Netflix press release for either departure. We confirmed the present state ourselves on Oct 11 2026: Netflix's US Help Center games list has no GTA game, the old Help Center page for San Andreas Definitive now returns "Not Found", and the Extended Look title page is live.

Durations are counted by script in calendar days:

  • GTA III and Vice City: Dec 14 2023 to Dec 13 2024 = 365 days (2024 is a leap year, so a full year to Dec 14 would be 366).
  • San Andreas: Dec 14 2023 to Dec 12 2025 = 366 + 365 - 2 = 729 days.
  • Extended Look announcement to premiere: Aug 6 to Aug 27 2026 = 21 days.

Viewing figures are Netflix's own. Netflix counts a "view" as total hours watched divided by runtime. That is not the same as a YouTube view.

The games: two years, then gone

The Definitive Edition reached phones 763 days after its Nov 11 2021 console launch, and it reached them through Netflix. Netflix's Nov 29 2023 post promised the three games "without any ads, in-app purchases, or extra fees" as part of a catalog of more than 80 mobile games. Each game was a separate app, found in the App Store, Google Play or the Netflix app. What's on Netflix names Video Games Deluxe as the studio behind the ports.

GTA III and Vice City left after one year. Netflix's statement, given to What's on Netflix: games "will be removed from Netflix as licenses expire", with a "Leaving Soon" badge in advance. San Andreas stayed a second year. In Dec 2024, PocketGamer.biz cited Sensor Tower data naming San Andreas the platform's most downloaded game. That may explain the extension, though neither company said so. It left on Dec 12 2025, ten days after Red Dead Redemption arrived.

When a game leaves Netflix, the Netflix copy stops working, and What's on Netflix reported that San Andreas saves could not move to the paid version. All three apps are still on the App Store under Rockstar's name on Oct 11 2026. GTA III and Vice City Definitive are free downloads with a 30-minute trial and a one-time purchase; San Andreas Definitive costs $19.99. The wider history of the remaster is at /library/gta-trilogy-definitive-edition.

The video: GTA VI on Netflix first

Rockstar's Aug 6 2026 post set the premiere for Netflix on Thursday Aug 27 at 3 p.m. ET, with the same video reaching Rockstar's YouTube channel and the GTA VI site at 9 p.m. ET. That gave Netflix a six-hour window. It is the only GTA VI video that did not debut on YouTube; the full comparison with the two trailers is at /library/gta-vi-trailers.

Netflix's Tudum post says the video was "captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5" and is available to all subscribers worldwide, with subtitles in 13 languages. Netflix's Top 10 lists its runtime as 0:27.

In its first chart week, Aug 24 to 30, it was the No. 1 English-language film on Netflix with 31,100,000 views and 14,000,000 hours viewed. VGC reported Netflix's statement that it was No. 1 in 87 of 93 countries. Check the arithmetic: 14,000,000 hours divided by 0.45 hours (27 minutes) is about 31.1 million, which matches Netflix's view definition. The next week it fell to No. 4 with 4.4 million views, and then left the Top 10 after two weeks.

The title page is still up on Oct 11 2026, rated TV-MA and marked as available to download. GTA VI itself launches Nov 19 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S; see /library/gta-vi.

For a GTA fan, that buys one 27-minute video and Red Dead Redemption, not a GTA game. Netflix's Help Center lists Red Dead Redemption and no GTA title. If you want to play the Trilogy on a phone today, you buy it from Rockstar on the App Store or Google Play, or unlock some versions through GTA+. Every current route is on /library/how-to-play-every-gta-today.

Trivia

  • Netflix's Nov 2023 announcement called the catalog "more than 80 mobile games"; its Help Center still uses the same figure in Oct 2026.
  • The Tudum post notes that GTA VI comes 13 years after GTA V, "the same year that Netflix was beginning its push into original programming".
  • The Extended Look's YouTube upload is a separate count; VGC reported about 17 million YouTube views by Sep 2 2026.
  • Red Dead Redemption arrived on Netflix ten days before San Andreas left.
