Sony Japan sets a Midnight Black PS5 Digital Edition for Nov 19, the same day as GTA VI
SIE's Japan-only Midnight Black PS5 Digital Edition costs 55,000 yen and launches Nov 19. Pre-orders open Oct 20. It only works with Japanese accounts.
On Oct 13 2026, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced on its Japanese PlayStation Blog a new color for the Japan-only PS5: the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition Midnight Black, Japanese language only. It goes on sale in Japan on Nov 19 2026 at a suggested price of 55,000 yen, tax included.
Sony says the console is limited to use in Japan. It only works with a PlayStation account whose system language is set to Japanese and whose country or region is set to Japan. It is a digital edition with an 825GB SSD and no disc drive, and it plays download games from the Japanese PlayStation Store. A matching Disc Drive Midnight Black, priced at 11,980 yen, launches the same day. Pre-orders for both open Oct 20 at PlayStation retailers and online stores in Japan.
The GTA VI link is the date. In its list of upcoming games, Sony names Grand Theft Auto VI as due on Nov 19, the same day as this model. The post does not describe a GTA VI bundle or a GTA VI design. GamesRadar+, which flagged the post, notes that getting one to work outside Japan would take a lot of work.
Why it matters. Sony has put new PS5 hardware on GTA VI launch day, and named the game in the announcement. For players in Japan it is a new console option for day one. For players elsewhere, it changes nothing yet.
What is still unknown. Sony has not announced a GTA VI console, bundle or special edition for any other region. The PlayStation Blog in the US and Europe had no matching post when we checked. We will update this if Sony announces launch hardware elsewhere.
